1972 Cat Stevens goes to #1 in America with his album Catch Bull at Four. It's his only chart-topper in the US.

1972 Steely Dan show up on Hot 100 for the first time when their debut single, "Do It Again," enters at #98. It will peak at #6 on February 11, 1973.

1971 Junior Parker dies during surgery for a brain tumor in Blue Island, Illinois, at age 39. Known for '50s R&B hits like "Feelin' Good," "Love My Baby," and "Mystery Train" (later covered by Elvis Presley).

1971 Procul Harum records Procol Harum Live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

1970 Cat Stevens performs in America for the first time, opening for Traffic at the Fillmore East in New York City.

1970 After 13 years of marriage, Jerry Lee Lewis divorces Myra Gale Brown, the daughter of his bass-player cousin who was just 13 when they wed. She later claims that they spent just three nights together during their marriage. Lewis takes up abstinence and sobriety, but abandons that lifestyle after a few months.

1964 The ABC show Shindig! features The Supremes (who sing "Baby Love" and "Come See About Me") and The Righteous Brothers (who perform "Little Latin Lupe Lu").

1963 Beatles manager Brian Epstein asks the group's fans to please refrain from pelting the group with Jelly Babies (soft, jelly-like sweets) at their concerts. The Beatles had made the mistake of remarking how much they liked them.
