My Chemical Romance Release The Black Parade
2006My Chemical Romance release their wildly popular third album, The Black Parade, which was recorded during the band's stay at the notoriously haunted Paramour Mansion in Los Angeles.
The Black Parade is a grandiose rock opera about the death and afterlife of a cancer patient and, according to the band, it was a record that nearly killed them. Already pushed to the brink by the pressure to surpass their breakthrough, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, the spooky surroundings played tricks on their psyche, with frontman Gerard Way having regular night terrors and bassist Mikey Way spiraling into a dangerous depression. The atmosphere leaked onto the record, says producer Rob Cavallo: "You can almost see the ghosts flying around the room when we recorded those songs." The band's suffering pays off - the album debuts at #2 on the albums chart and its lead single, "Welcome To The Black Parade," is a Top 10 hit on the Hot 100.
