George Michael Issues Second Solo Album
1990George Michael releases his second solo album, Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1. Looking to avoid the pitfalls that overwhelmed him after his debut Faith, Michael refuses to tour in support of the album and won't appear in the music videos.
The big hit from the album is "Praying For Time," which reaches #1 in America. It's followed by "Freedom '90," where he symbolically immolates the image he created on Faith and declares his independence. Michael still feels shacked by his 8-album deal with Sony though, and sues the label in 1992 to get his release. The long legal affair doesn't end well for the singer, who loses the case and remains out of action until 1996, when his album Older is issued on the Virgin and Dreamworks SKG labels, who have negotiated a buyout with Sony.
