April 18, 2009 Sable Starr dies of brain cancer in Reno, Nevada, at the age of 51. In the 1970s she was a famous groupie, following rock stars around the venues of LA from the age of 14. At the time of her death she has retired from the rock and roll lifestyle and is working in a casino.

March 16, 2009 Songwriter Jack Lawrence dies at age 96 after he falls at his home in Redding, Connecticut. He co-wrote Frank Sinatra's first solo hit, "All or Nothing at All."

February 25, 2008 Stephen "Static Major" Garrett, who co-wrote Ginuwine's "Pony," Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" and many tracks for Aaliyah, dies at age 32 after contracting a rare autoimmune disorder.

February 19, 2008 Jazz musician Teo Macero dies at age 82.

May 20, 2007 Composer Ben Weisman dies in Los Angeles, age 85. He wrote or co-wrote more songs for Elvis Presley (57!) than anyone else.

January 4, 2007 Nikki Bacharach, daughter of popular composer Burt Bacharach and actress Angie Dickinson, commits suicide at age 40 after a lifelong battle with Asperger's syndrome. She was the inspiration for her dad's 1969 song "Nikki."

November 3, 2006 Lyricist Betty Comden dies in New York City aged 89.

October 6, 2006 Fabulous Wailers guitarist and trumpeter John Greek dies.

August 1, 2006 30-year-old Andy Richardson dies after he is beaten in the mosh pit during the Deftones' set at the Family Values tour in Atlanta.

January 1, 2006 Guitarist/songwriter Bryan Harvey (of House of Freaks) is murdered in his home along with his wife and two young daughters. The crime is part of the Richmond spree murders, a series of deadly home invasions in Virginia perpetrated by Ricky Javon Gray and his nephew Ray Joseph Dandridge over the course of a week.

April 9, 2004 Weird Al Yankovic's parents, Nick and Mary Yankovic, are found dead of accidental carbon-monoxide poisoning in their Fallbrook, California. The tragedy was caused by using their fireplace with the flue closed.
