December 16, 1984 Dusty Hill of ZZ Top is shot in the stomach when his girlfriend pulls off his boot and his .38-caliber derringer falls out and discharges. The bullet is designed not to exit, but to do internal damage, which is bad news; he makes it to the hospital where doctors remove most of it, but fragments remain in his back.

August 14, 1983 Ramones guitarist Johnny Ramone fractures his skull in a fight with Seth Macklin of the band Sub Zero Construction. The fight started when Ramone spotted Macklin with his girlfriend Roxy Whitney (she thinks they have an open relationship). Ramone is rushed to the hospital and undergoes brain surgery; Macklin is arrested and charged with assault.

February 21, 1983 Performing in Cleveland on the ninth date of a 48-date US tour, Adam Ant collapses on stage with torn cartilage in his knee; he returns after being seen by a doctor and finishes on one leg.

January 20, 1983 Kenny Loggins falls off the stage while making his entrance at a concert in Provo, Utah. The house lights are dimmed, so the crowd doesn't see it. The audience is stunned to learn that Loggins is being taken to the hospital, where he is treated for broken ribs. The show is rescheduled, and while recovering, Loggins writes the song "Footloose" with Dean Pitchford, providing the title track for the movie.

November 3, 1979 Days before his 18th birthday, teen idol Leif Garrett, under the influence of drugs and alcohol, crashes his mother's Porsche 914 en route to buy cocaine. He escapes serious injury but his best friend, Roland Winkler, is left a paraplegic.

April 22, 1978 Performing at the Ottawa Civic Centre on the Bat Out Of Hell tour, Meat Loaf falls off the stage and mangles his knee, requiring surgery. He does the next few shows from a wheelchair but completes the tour.

April 21, 1976 A night after George Harrison joins Monty Python during their performance of "The Lumberjack Song" at a New York show, Harry Nilsson tries it. While Harrison blended in as a member of the chorus (dressed as a Mountie), Nilsson wears dark glasses and makes a spectacle. When he goes to the front of the stage to shake hands with audience members, he falls into the crowd and breaks his arm.

April 6, 1974 Al Green performs his hit "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)" on Soul Train. Green, who had broken an arm and is wearing a sling, performs the song live, which is rare on the show because live performances are expensive and complicated to produce.

February 15, 1961 Jackie Wilson is shot in Manhattan. The following issue of Melody Maker carries the front page headline Girl Fan Shoots Jackie Wilson, but controversy over the incident persists in spite of Wilson's claim that this is what really happened.

October 24, 1937 Cole Porter is involved in a horrific accident. While riding his horse in Locust Valley, New York, the animal falls and rolls over onto him, crushing his legs. He will spend the rest of his life in constant pain.
