October 6, 2016 Prince's Paisley Park compound opens to the public.More

October 15, 2003 The Louis Armstrong House Museum opens its doors to the public. Located in the Corona neighborhood of Queens, New York, the home was the longtime residence of the late singer. He and wife Lucille Wilson moved in as newlyweds in 1943 and stayed until Armstrong's death in 1971.

June 18, 2000 The Experience Music Project, a museum including permanent exhibitions on Jimi Hendrix and Nirvana, opens in Seattle.More

September 10, 1999 Standin' On The Corner Park opens in Winslow, Arizona. Inspired by the city's famous mention in the Eagles song "Take It Easy," the park features a statue of a man with a guitar standing on the corner. The park quickly becomes a popular photo op for folks passing through Winslow.

December 18, 1998 Alice Cooper's Cooper'stown restaurant opens in Phoenix (try the "Welcome To My Nightmare" chili). To celebrate, Cooper performs with his original bandmates Michael Bruce and Neal Smith - the first time the three have been on stage together in 24 years.

June 4, 1992 When the United States Post Office decides to do an Elvis stamp, they put it up for a vote: a young Elvis or an old Elvis image, and young Elvis wins by a landslide, getting more votes by a factor of three to one. Priscilla Presley makes the announcement at Graceland.More

May 3, 1986 The Silver Dollar City Tennessee amusement park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is reopened as Dollywood after Dolly Parton takes an ownership stake. The park grows considerably and becomes very successful with Parton involved.

June 7, 1982 Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion opens to the public. Visitors get to experience the Jungle Room (green shag carpets!), the Trophy Room, and the Meditation Garden.

April 26, 1977 The most famous club of the disco era, Studio 54, opens for business at 254 West 54th Street in New York City. Over the next three years, celebrity guests include Cher, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Brooke Shields, and Liza Minnelli. Donald Trump and his wife, Ivana, attend on opening night.

December 19, 1976 Al Green, recently ordained as a minister, opens the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Memphis, where he preaches most Sundays.

August 25, 1970 Jimi Hendrix opens Electric Ladyland Studios in New York City. He dies a few months later, but the studio lives on, with many major acts recording there over the years.

April 1, 1969 After playing on hits for the likes of Wilson Pickett and Aretha Franklin at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, four session musicians start Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, where they record The Staple Singers, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart and The Rolling Stones.More

December 7, 1967 The Beatles' Apple Boutique officially opens its doors at 94 Baker Street in London. Seven months later, they close the boutique and give away the remaining merchandise.

November 24, 2023 Garth Brooks opens the Friends In Low Places Bar & Honky Tonk on Broadway in Nashville, where you can slip on down to the Oasis - the name of the rooftop bar. In March 2024, an Amazon Prime Video series launches to document its construction.

September 29, 2023 U2 kick off their U2:UV Achtung Baby Live residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas, a $2.3 billion orb with a 250-foot wraparound screen. U2 is the first act to perform there, but they do it without drummer Larry Mullen Jr., who is recovering from surgery.

November 17, 2016 Ludacris opens the Chicken + Beer restaurant, named after his 2003 album, in Concourse D of Hartsfield-Jackson airport in Atlanta.

March 11, 2009 The Dead Weather, fronted by Alison Mosshart with Jack White on drums, make their debut performance at the opening of White's Third Man Records location in Nashville.

August 24, 2007 Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere & the Raiders opens Mark Lindsay's Rock And Roll Cafe in his native Portland, Oregon. The restaurant closes the next year.

March 27, 2003 John Lennon's boyhood home in Liverpool is opened to the public.

June 30, 2001 The Rockabilly Hall of Fame opens in Jackson, Tennessee.

October 9, 2000 The John Lennon museum opens in Japan on what would have been his 60th birthday. Yoko Ono allows it to operate for 10 years before terminating the agreement, as she feels Lennon's spirit should stay in motion.

September 26, 2000 Creed lead singer Scott Stapp launches his With Arms Wide Open Foundation with a fundraising re-release of the song "With Arms Wide Open."

July 12, 2000 London's Trafalgar Square unveils a sculpture of John Lennon, created by Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reutersward, which also features a handgun twisted into an unusable shape.

November 20, 1998 Alanis Morissette does an in-store performance for the opening of a Tower records store in Buenos Aires. Proceeds from the sale of her album for the day are donated to a local children's hospital.

November 19, 1998 Motley Crue fans are able to fulfill all their fashion needs when the band's new retail store, S'Crue, opens at 7201 Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles. The store stocks merchandise from the band's worldwide tours, clothing from both the clothing lines by bassist Nikki Sixx and vocalist Vince Neil, and all Motley Crue albums.

August 11, 1992 The Mall of America opens in Bloomington, Minnesota, with Ray Charles performing "America The Beautiful."

July 19, 1990 Singer Vicki Carr helps dedicate the Nixon Presidential Library, singing in front of all four living presidents (Nixon, Carter, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush), all of which she had performed for at the White House during their terms.

July 28, 1989 Anne Murray opens the Anne Murray Centre, a multimedia museum of her career, in her hometown of Springhill, Nova Scotia.

June 12, 1989 The Elvis Presley Autoland Museum, a section of Graceland devoted to twenty of the King's vintage cars, opens to the public.

July 19, 1980 Laguna Beach, California's Vorpal Gallery opens a new exhibit featuring paintings by Joni Mitchell, John Mayall, Klaus Voorman, and Ron Wood.
