June 1, 1967 Fairport Convention make their live debut, performing at St. Michael's Hall, Golders Green.

March 22, 1967 The Who make their US stage debut, performing at the Paramount Theater in New York City.

March 3, 1967 The Jeff Beck Group, with an unknown vocalist named Rod Stewart, make their live performance debut in London at the Finsbury Park Astoria.

December 3, 1966 The Monkees, who are stars thanks to their TV show, play their first concert. About 8,000 screaming fans show up for the performance in Honolulu, confirming their status as real-life superstars.

October 1, 1966 Jimi Hendrix makes his UK stage debut when he jumps onstage to jam with Cream at London Polytechnic.

July 29, 1966 Cream make their stage debut, playing at Manchester, England's Twisted Wheel club.

July 28, 1966 At the Boys Club in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, The Beach Boys perform "God Only Knows" for the first time. In September, it peaks at an underwhelming #39, but slowly swells in stature and is eventually recognized as one of the greatest pop songs ever made.

June 10, 1966 Janis Joplin makes her singing debut with Big Brother & the Holding Company at San Francisco's Avalon Ballroom.

May 23, 1966 After a few months honing their act at the Los Angeles club The London Fog, The Doors play the Whisky a Go Go for the first time, where they become the house band. Their Whisky run gets them lots of exposure and earns them a contract with Elektra Records.

December 4, 1965 Jacques Brel makes his American concert debut, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

August 13, 1965 Jefferson Airplane make their stage debut at San Francisco's new club The Matrix (3138 Fillmore). The group gets a record deal after receiving a positive review in the San Francisco Chronicle.

April 30, 1965 Herman's Hermits make their US stage debut, with The Zombies as opening act.

April 16, 1965 The Hollies make their US stage debut at New York's Paramount Theatre.

November 28, 1964 Willie Nelson makes his Grand Ole Opry debut.

May 9, 1964 Chuck Berry makes his UK stage debut at London's Astoria Theatre, with The Animals, The Nashville Teens, and The Swinging Blue Jeans opening for him.

December 31, 1963 The Kinks make their stage debut at the Lotus House Restaurant in London.

January 31, 1963 Neil Young, 17, plays his first show, performing at a country club in Winnipeg.

January 25, 1963 Cilla Black makes her stage debut at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, England.

April 19, 1962 Jackie Wilson makes his stage debut with a show at the Copacabana in New York City.

March 22, 1962 Nineteen-year-old Barbra Streisand makes her Broadway debut, starring in the play I Can Get It For You Wholesale.

December 23, 1961 The Beach Boys make their live debut, performing two songs during the intermission of Dick Dale's concert at the Rendezvous Ballroom in Newport Beach, California.

November 4, 1961 Bob Dylan plays to a crowd of 53 at his Carnegie Hall debut, his first concert outside of the Greenwich Village scene. The show takes place in the smaller Chapter Hall auditorium.

February 9, 1961 The Beatles, with a lineup of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, bass player Stuart Sutcliffe and drummer Pete Best, play the Cavern Club in Liverpool for the first time, earning £5 for the lunchtime gig. They become regulars at the club, where they end up doing 291 more shows.

May 16, 1959 Wayne Newton, 16 years old, makes his Las Vegas debut, performing with his brother, Jerry, at the Freemont Hotel downtown. A few years later, he becomes a Vegas Star and a regular on the Strip.

May 11, 1957 The Everly Brothers make their stage debut in Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry.

February 14, 1957 Jazz great Lionel Hampton debuts "King David," his only symphony, at New York's Town Hall.

January 4, 1957 On NBC's Steve Allen Show, former heavyweight boxing champ Joe Louis introduces the world to singer Solomon Burke, who performs Louis' song "You Can Run, But You Can't Hide."

December 7, 1956 Tommy Steele, billed as "Britain's answer to Elvis," makes his concert debut at Finsbury Park, Astoria, London.

June 4, 1956 Gene Vincent makes his stage debut, performing in his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia.

January 19, 1953 Marty Robbins makes his stage debut at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry.
