January 1, 1964 The Beach Boys begin the new year with a 7-hour session at Western Recorders in Hollywood, where they record "Fun, Fun, Fun" and "The Warmth Of The Sun."

November 3, 1963 Gale Garnett records "We'll Sing In The Sunshine."

November 1, 1963 Lorne Greene records "Ringo."

October 29, 1963 The Hollies begin recording their debut UK album, Stay With The Hollies, at EMI Studios in London.

October 17, 1963 The Beatles record the first of their "Christmas Records," spoken word greetings sent out on vinyl to members of their fan club.

October 15, 1963 The Rip Chords record "Hey Little Cobra."

October 10, 1963 Elvis Presley records "Once Is Enough," "Catchin' On Fast," "Anyone," "Smokey Mountain Boy," "There's Gold In The Mountains," "One Boy, Two Little Girls," "Kissin' Cousins," "Barefoot Ballad," and "Tender Feeling."

September 13, 1963 Shirley Ellis records "The Nitty Gritty."

July 25, 1963 Singer Cilla Black, discovered by Beatles manager Brian Epstein at a Gerry & the Pacemakers concert, makes her first recording test for EMI.

July 23, 1963 Canadian high school student Neil Young and his band, the Squires, visit a Winnipeg studio to record their first single, a surf instrumental called "The Sultan."

June 12, 1963 Along with "Little Deuce Coupe," The Beach Boys record "Surfer Girl" at Western Recorders in Hollywood. They first recorded the song in February 1962 with terrible results.

May 28, 1963 Elvis Presley records "Slowly But Surely," "Blue River," and "Ask Me."

May 27, 1963 Elvis Presley records "What Now, What Next, Where To," "Witchcraft," "Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers," "Love Me Tonight," "Memphis, Tennessee," "Long Lonely Highway," and "Western Union."

May 26, 1963 Elvis Presley records "Echoes Of Love," "Please Don't Drag That String Around," "(You're The) Devil In Disguise," and "Never Ending."

May 10, 1963 The first Rolling Stones recording session is held in London, where they record their first single: a cover of Chuck Berry's "Come On."

April 6, 1963 Bobby Darin records "Eighteen Yellow Roses."

March 25, 1963 In Nashville, Johnny Cash records "Ring Of Fire," a song co-written by his friend and collaborator June Carter that was first recorded by her sister Anita. The song becomes one of his biggest hits, and June marries Johnny five years later.

March 10, 1963 "Little" Stevie Wonder performs "Fingertips" at the Regal Theatre in Chicago. The performance is recorded and released as a single in May, becoming the first live recording to hit #1 on the Hot 100.

January 22, 1963 Gerry & the Pacemakers record "How Do You Do It."

December 2, 1962 Andy Williams records "Can't Get Used To Losing You."

November 14, 1962 Bob Dylan records "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right."

October 27, 1962 The Rolling Stones record their first demos in London at Curly Clayton Studios, recording covers of songs by Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed and Bo Diddley. The demos get little interest when they shop them to record companies.

September 27, 1962 Martha Reeves and the Vandellas record "I'll Have To Let Him Go."

September 11, 1962 At Abbey Road studios in London, The Beatles record their first British singles: "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You."
