October 14, 1977 KISS release Alive II, recorded over three nights at the Forum in Los Angeles.

September 23, 1977 The Rolling Stones release Love You Live.

September 20, 1977 Ringo Starr releases Ringo The 4th.

August 19, 1977 A year after her group Labelle call it quits, Patti LaBelle releases her self-titled debut album, introducing one of her signature songs, "You Are My Friend."

July 10, 1977 Queen release their "We Are The Champions"/"We Will Rock You" single in the UK, providing stadium anthems for sporting events the world over.

June 17, 1977 Steve Winwood releases his debut solo album, Steve Winwood.

May 27, 1977 The Sex Pistols' "God Save The Queen" is released, selling about 150,000 copies in a week despite being nightparted on BBC's Radio 1 and declined by some record stores.

January 28, 1977 Buzzcocks release the their EP Spiral Scratch on their own independent label, distributing it at live shows, via mail order and at record stores around their stomping grounds of Manchester, England. It sells over 15,000 copies, proving it's possible to succeed without a major label and leading a wave of DIY UK punk bands.

January 14, 1977 David Bowie releases Low, the first of three albums produced with the help of Brian Eno in which Bowie explores electronic music. Much of the album is instrumental.

December 10, 1976 Queen release their fifth album, A Day At The Races, in the UK (US release is December 18). Like their previous album, A Night At The Opera, it's titled after a Marx Brothers movie.

December 10, 1976 Wings release Wings Over America.

November 9, 1976 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers release their self-titled debut album. The album features the band's debut single, "Breakdown," and one of their all-time signature tunes, "American Girl," but it takes a while before it receives commercial attention in the US. It's eventually certified Gold for sales of 500,000 copies in the United States.

November 8, 1976 George Harrison releases The Best Of George Harrison.

September 27, 1976 Ringo Starr releases Ringo's Rotogravure.

September 13, 1976 Bob Dylan releases Hard Rain. The live album features performances from two concerts on his Rolling Thunder Revue tour that took place in May 1976.

August 14, 1976 Nick Lowe releases his debut solo single, "So It Goes."

July 31, 1976 Orleans release "Still The One."

June 26, 1976 Peter Frampton releases "Baby, I Love Your Way."

June 11, 1976 Wild Cherry release "Play That Funky Music."

June 11, 1976 The Carpenters release A Kind Of Hush.

May 18, 1976 Warren Zevon releases his self-titled album, produced by Jackson Browne. It doesn't sell very well, but Linda Ronstadt covers three of the tracks: "Hasten Down The Wind," "Carmelita," and "Poor Poor Pitiful Me."

April 23, 1976 The Rolling Stones release their album Black And Blue, which contains "Fool To Cry" and "Hot Stuff."

March 15, 1976 KISS release their album Destroyer, featuring "Detroit Rock City" and "Beth."

November 21, 1975 In the UK, Queen release their fourth album, A Night At The Opera, containing the hits "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "You're My Best Friend." The album is issued in America on December 2.

October 20, 1975 John Lennon releases the compilation album Shaved Fish in the US. It's the first album to feature Lennon's 1971 holiday single "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)."

September 12, 1975 Pink Floyd release the album Wish You Were Here.

July 19, 1975 Orleans release "Dance With Me."

June 26, 1975 The Basement Tapes, a two-disc album featuring recordings by Bob Dylan and The Band, is released. Most of the 24-track collection was recorded by Dylan and The Band in 1967, after the folk-rock legend retreated to the Woodstock, New York area following his July 1966 motorcycle accident. Eight of the songs were recorded solely by The Band between 1967 and 1975.

June 23, 1975 With vocalist Marty Balin back in the band, Jefferson Starship release Red Octopus, which thanks to the hit "Miracles," outsells every other Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship album.

June 10, 1975 The Eagles release their fourth album, One Of These Nights. It includes "Take It to the Limit," one of the few Eagles songs with a lead vocal by Randy Meisner.
