December 31, 2008 At halftime of the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, 40,148 fans perform the "Y.M.C.A." dance while the Village People perform, establishing a Guinness World Record. It is the most memorable part of the game, which Oregon State wins 3-0 over Pittsburgh.

June 5, 2008 James Taylor sings the US national anthem at Game 1 of the NBA finals in Boston.

January 26, 2008 Weezer's Rivers Cuomo takes part in the Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra charity soccer match benefiting the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and the Mia Hamm Foundation in Carson, California.

November 23, 2000 Twelve-year-old Billy Gilman sings "One Voice" during festivities at the Dallas Cowboys-Minnesota Vikings football game. Gilman is joined by Jessica Simpson for the halftime show.

November 25, 1999 Clint Black is on hand to help the Salvation Army launch its annual holiday fundraising drive. Black entertains during the third annual "National Kettle Kick-off," a half-time event at the Dallas Cowboys' football game.

October 31, 1999 Bryan White sings the US national anthem at the Adelphia Coliseum in Nashville prior to the match-up between the Tennessee Titans and the St. Louis Rams. Following the game, White gives his second annual Howl-O-Ween concert at the north end of the coliseum.

October 28, 1999 Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis, out with an injury, tries his hand at rapping when he performs at the Denver nightclub Wazoos.

October 27, 1999 Master P's hoop dream comes to an end. The high-profile rapper, whose real name is Percy Miller, is waived by the NBA's Toronto Raptors, failing to make the pro league for the second straight season. The year before, the Charlotte Hornets waived Miller just before the regular season began.

September 17, 1999 It is announced that rap entrepreneur Percy Miller (Master P) has signed an NBA contract with the Toronto Raptors. He appears in some preseason games but is cut before the regular season.

November 27, 1997 Reba McEntire debuts her new song "What If" at halftime of the Cowboys-Oilers Thanksgiving Day football game at Texas Stadium. Proceeds from the song are donated to the Salvation Army.

January 26, 1997 ZZ Top, James Brown and The Blues Brothers perform at the Super Bowl XXXI halftime show in New Orleans.

June 1, 1996 Baddiel and Skinner and The Lightning Seeds' "Three Lions," the official song of the England Football team, hits #1 on the UK singles chart.

January 28, 1996 Diana Ross performs at the Superbowl XXX halftime show in Tempe, Arizona.

October 24, 1995 Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders goes back to Ohio to sing the national anthem before Game 3 of the World Series in Cleveland. The Indians pull this one out, but lose the series to the Atlanta Braves.

January 28, 1990 Aaron Neville performs the US national anthem at Superbowl XXIV in New Orleans, Louisiana. Halftime entertainment is a salute to the city, with local marching bands performing along with Pete Fountain, Irma Thomas and Doug Kershaw.

January 29, 1989 Billy Joel sings the US national anthem at Superbowl XXIII in Miami.

January 25, 1987 Neil Diamond sings the US national anthem at Superbowl XXI in Pasadena, California. Halftime entertainment is Disney's "Salute to Hollywood's 100th Anniversary."

March 31, 1985 The first WrestleMania goes down at Madison Square Garden, with Liberace as timekeeper and Cyndi Lauper managing the wrestler Wendi Richter, who wins the Women's Championship with Lauper's help.

July 23, 1984 MTV broadcasts the WWF Women's Championship match live from Madison Square Garden, where Wendi Richter, managed by Cyndi Lauper, takes the title. Part of the "Rock And Wrestling Connection," it's the most-watched program in the history of MTV. Lauper returns to manage Richter the following year at the first WrestleMania.

December 12, 1981 At a Journey concert in San Francisco, lead singer Steve Perry brings up members of the 49ers football team who are in the audience and introduces them as "the next Super Bowl champions." His prediction comes true: the 49ers beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XVI.

April 1, 1978 The Philadelphia Fury soccer team (owned by Paul Simon, Peter Frampton, James Taylor and others) makes its debut (it lasts three seasons).
