September 27, 2000 U2, whose video for "Where The Streets Have No Name" comes from a rooftop concert, play another roofie, this time atop the Clarence Hotel in Dublin to play their new songs "Beautiful Day" and "Elevation" for air on Top Of The Pops.

April 25, 2000 Eric Clapton is reunited with his former Derek & the Dominos keyboard player Bobby Whitlock for their first performance together in 29 years. The setting is the London-based BBC TV series Later With Jools Holland.

April 17, 2000 "I Will Survive" singer Gloria Gaynor makes an appearance on Ally McBeal.

February 27, 2000 The Beach Boys: An American Family TV mini-series begins on ABC, chronicling the rise of the title band.

February 20, 2000 The biographical TV movie Little Richard airs on NBC, with mononymous actor Leon in the title role.

November 26, 1999 98 Degrees melds music and commerce in a novel way when the teen act performs several of its songs and sells some exclusive band merchandise on the Home Shopping Network.

October 27, 1999 Korn star in the South Park episode "Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery," a Scooby-Doo spoof where they voice their animated avatars. At one point they use their "Korn powers," which is just turning into corn products.

September 28, 1999 Jean-Michel Jarre announces during a press conference at the Cairo Opera House that he has been commissioned by the Egyptian government to create and perform "The Twelve Dreams Of The Sun," a three-act "electronic opera" to mark the millennium night in the Egyptian desert.

August 29, 1999 HBO premieres Cher: Live In Concert From Las Vegas. The singer performed at the sprawling MGM Grand Las Vegas, the second largest hotel in the world (by number of rooms).

May 16, 1999 Diana Ross and Brandy star as mother and daughter in the made-for-TV movie Double Platinum.

April 27, 1999 R.E.M. appear on a scripted series for the first time when they guest on Party of Five.

February 24, 1999 Ricky Martin ushers in a wave of Latin pop with a spellbinding performance of "The Cup Of Life" at the Grammy Awards. Ten weeks later, his song "Livin' La Vida Loca" goes to #1 in America; later in the year, Enrique Iglesias ("Bailamos") and Santana ("Smooth") follow to the top with Latin-flavored hits.

February 14, 1999 Elton John appears on the "I'm with Cupid" episode of The Simpsons, where he does a re-worked version of "Your Song."

January 28, 1999 Shakira makes her American TV debut on The Rosie O'Donnell Show in an episode guest hosted by her good friend Gloria Estefan. She sings an English version of her song "Inevitable," which is considered for her first English-language single but bumped for "Whenever, Wherever," which she wrote with Estefan.

November 2, 1998 President Clinton gives his first in-depth interview since the White House sex scandal to Black Entertainment Television talk show host and political commentator Tavis Smiley on the network's BET Tonight with Tavis Smiley.

October 30, 1998 Original members of Black Sabbath reunite for a one-off performance on Late Show with David Letterman.

October 5, 1998 HBO is the home of the world premiere of Janet Jackson's new music video "Every Time." The premiere takes place just before the 8 p.m. showing of William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet and serves as a prelude to HBO's premiere of the live concert special from Madison Square Garden, Janet: The Velvet Rope.

July 18, 1998 'N Sync get a big boost in America when their "In Concert" special airs on the Disney Channel. They got the gig when their boy band rivals Backstreet Boys backed out.

June 10, 1998 Joe Walsh, Graham Nash and Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath play a celebrity version of Rock & Roll Jeopardy! that airs in October on VH1. McGrath wins big. The next season he defeats Edwin McCain and Joshua Morrow; the following year he defends his crown against Mick Jones and Vince Neil.

April 6, 1998 On the TV show Murphy Brown, Candice Bergen's lead character turns 50, and her coworkers celebrate by recreating an episode of American Bandstand. Dick Clark, Chubby Checker, Fabian and Lesley Gore all make appearances.

February 18, 1998 Robert Smith of The Cure battles Barbra Streisand on the show South Park.

November 30, 1997 The X-Files episode "The Post-Modern Prometheus" includes a Cher storyline and culminates in the main characters attending her concert. Cher couldn't appear in the episode (a lookalike was used), but three of her songs are featured: "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine (Anymore)," "Walking in Memphis" and "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves."

November 20, 1997 Paul McCartney tapes an interview and live performance of "Flaming Pie" and "Young Boy" for the syndicated Oprah Winfrey Show.

October 22, 1997 Appearing on the BBC TV show Clive Anderson – All Talk, the Bee Gees walk out of their interview after several minutes of uncomfortable conversation where they are derided by the host. At one point, Anderson calls them "hit writers," and then adds, "We're one letter short."

October 13, 1997 Billy Joel plays his new classical compositions on National Public Radio's Performance Today show.

September 19, 1997 The VH1 show Storytellers airs live for the first time with an episode featuring Elton John from the House of Blues in New Orleans.

May 12, 1997 Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson appear on VH1's Storytellers, where they play each other's songs and swap stories. It's released as an album the following year.

February 16, 1997 Michael Jackson sings "Elizabeth I Love You," which he wrote for the actress Elizabeth Taylor, at her 65th birthday celebration. The event airs on ABC on February 25th.

January 14, 1997 The Beach Boys guest star on the "Karate Kid Returns" episode of the ABC sitcom Home Improvement.
