Nelson Release Debut Album
1990Nelson release their debut album After the Rain, which sells over 2 million copies thanks to the #1 single "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection." Nelson is the duo of Gunnar and Matthew, the twin sons of Rick Nelson.
The twins, whose father died in a plane crash in 1985, got a record deal with Geffen in 1988 and spent about two years recording demos before the label's famous A&R man, John Kalodner, gave them the green light to make the album. Thanks to incessant airplay on MTV, "Love and Affection" takes off, making Gunnar and Matthew the third generation of Nelsons to hit it big in music (their grandfather, Ozzie Nelson, was a star bandleader in the '30s and '40s). The next Nelson album doesn't appear until 1995, by which time their brand of long-haired power pop has been superseded by grunge.
