1957 Simon & Garfunkel make their first appearance on ABC-TV's dance show American Bandstand -- in their earlier incarnation as Tom and Jerry, playing their minor hit "Hey Little Schoolgirl."

1955 Elvis Presley sends a telegram to his new manager, Colonel Tom Parker, which reads: "Dear Colonel, Words can never tell you how my folks and I appreciate what you did for me. I've always known and now my folks are assured that you are the best, most wonderful person I could ever hope to work with. Believe me when I say I will stick with you through thick and thin and do everything I can to uphold your faith in me. Again, I say thanks and I love you like a father."

1954 Craig Huxley, film and soundtrack producer, is born Craig Hundley in Hollywood, California. He starts his career as a child actor with guest roles on Star Trek, Bewitched, and The Brady Bunch. As a producer and arranger, he works with scores of artists, including Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder.

1950 Tina Weymouth (bass guitarist for Talking Heads) is born Martina Michele Weymouth in Coronado, California.

1948 Dennis Larden (of Every Mother's Son) is born in New York City, New York. Known for the 1967 hit "Come On Down To My Boat."

1947 Sonny Geraci (lead singer for The Outsiders, Climax) is born in Cleveland, Ohio.

1947 Rod Price (lead guitarist for Foghat) is born Roderick Michael Price in Willesden, North London, England.

1946 Bass guitarist Aston "Family Man" Barrett (of Bob Marley and the Wailers) is born in Kingston, Jamaica. Though he would earn the nickname "Family Man" before he had kids, it turned out to be an apt title: He allegedly fathered 41 children.

1942 Floyd Sneed (drummer for Three Dog Night) is born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

1942 Stephen Caldwell (of The Orlons) is born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

1941 Terry Stafford, known for the hits "Suspicion" (1964) and "Amarillo By Morning" (1973), is born in Hollis, Oklahoma, but would be raised in Amarillo, Texas.

1941 Jesse Colin Young (vocalist, bassist for The Youngbloods) is born Perry Miller in Queens, New York City.
