2018 Paul McCartney's album Egypt Station hits #1 in America, his first chart-topper on that tally since Tug of War in 1982.
2012 Taylor Swift's single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" notches its third week at #1 on the Hot 100. Swift is still considered a country artist (the song also hits #1 on the Country chart), which puts her in company with Kenny Rogers in terms of crossover appeal; the last country song to spend at least three weeks at #1 was Rogers' "Lady" back in 1980.

Howse faces nearly 20 years in prison but receives a lesser sentence after his attorneys present evidence that he was an abused child.

American Soul Singers Come To Zaire
1974The Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman boxing match (the "Rumble In The Jungle") in Zaire is postponed, but a concert festival promoting the event goes on anyway, with Bill Withers, The Spinners and Celia Cruz performing along with the African artist Tabu Ley Rochereau.
The festival is organized by the fight's promoter, Don King, who coordinates the event with Hugh Masekela, an African trumpet player known in America for his hit "Grazing In The Grass." It's a huge feat of logistics and political maneuvering, so when the fight, scheduled for September 25, is pushed back when Foreman gets cut above the eye during a sparring session, the show goes on anyway. The festival brings some of the most prominent black artists to Zaire, where they are warmly received. Other performers include Miriam Makeba, B.B. King, Sister Sledge, and the headliner, James Brown, who goes on the third night. A total of 31 acts, many from the area, perform. Known as Zaire 74, the event is not shown in America and gets little coverage until 2008, when it is chronicled in documentary Soul Power. Muhammad Ali shows up a number of times in the film, mingling with the artists. When the fight takes place on October 30, he knocks out Foreman in the eighth round.
