Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin is born in Whitestone, Exeter, Devon, England. During orientation week at University College London in 1996, he meets guitarist Jonny Buckland and the new friends decide to start a band. Just four years later, Coldplay release their debut album, Parachutes, featuring their breakthrough hit, "Yellow."

The 30 or so extras are sent home because it's too cold and wet to execute the "beach party" vibe envisioned, so lead singer Chris Martin just walks around singing the song in one take. It's basic, but very effective, becoming a classic video.

It is an odd pairing, but after a set that includes "Viva La Vida" and "Paradise," Bruno Mars appears, followed by halftime show savior Beyoncé, who blasts out her new song, "Formation."
