Bobby Elliott, longtime drummer for The Hollies, is born in Burnley, Lancashire, England.

February 2, 1942

Graham Nash is born in Blackpool, Lancashire, England. After founding The Hollies in 1962, he leaves in 1968 to make more newsworthy music, which he does with Crosby, Stills and Nash and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

April 5, 1942

Allan Clarke, co-founder and original lead singer of The Hollies, is born Harold Allan Clarke in Salford, Lancashire, England.

September 16, 1942

Bernie Calvert, bass guitarist and keyboardist for The Hollies from 1966 to 1981, is born in Brierfield, Lancashire, England.

February 3, 1943

Eric Haydock, original bass guitarist for The Hollies, is born in Stockport, Cheshire, England.

December 16, 1945

Tony Hicks, longtime lead guitarist of The Hollies, is born in Nelson, Lancashire, England.

November 20, 1946

Ray Stiles, bass guitarist for The Hollies, is born in Guildford, Surrey, England.

The Hollies begin recording their debut UK album, Stay With The Hollies, at EMI Studios in London.

April 16, 1965

The Hollies make their US stage debut at New York's Paramount Theatre.

May 18, 1966

The Hollies record "Bus Stop." The song becomes the British Invasion band's first top-10 single in the US, peaking at #5.

June 29, 1967

While on tour with The Hollies, Graham Nash writes a song called "Marrakesh Express," which will later find a home with (and become a hit for) his new band, Crosby, Stills and Nash.

December 8, 1968

Graham Nash plays his last gig with The Hollies, a charity concert in London. He moves on with Crosby, Stills and Nash; The Hollies replace him with Terry Sylvester and continue their hit-making ways with "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother," "Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress)" and "The Air That I Breathe."

May 28, 1971

Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (and before that, The Hollies), releases his first solo album, Songs For Beginners. The first single is "Chicago (We Can Change The World)," which he wrote about protesters at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

September 24, 1988

The Hollies go to the top of the UK singles chart with "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" after the song was used in a UK TV beer commercial. The record was originally a hit for them in 1969.

March 15, 2010

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2010 - ABBA, Jimmy Cliff, Genesis, The Hollies, The Stooges - are inducted at the 25th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.
