Paul McCartney and his wife Linda appear on an episode of The Simpsons where they help Lisa become a vegetarian. Paul explains that if you play "Maybe I'm Amazed" backwards, you'll hear a recipe for lentil soup.

November 21, 1991

An animated Aerosmith perform "Walk This Way" on the "Flaming Moe's" episode of The Simpsons. The band is one of the first musical guests on the show.

Michael Jackson is a guest voice on The Simpsons, where he plays a mental patient Homer befriends named Leon Kompowski.

April 11, 1991

Ringo Starr appears on the Season 2 episode of The Simpsons "Brush With Greatness."

December 17, 1989

The Simpsons debuts on Fox with the episode "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire." The show quickly attracts big-name guest stars, including many musicians. In Season 3, Michael Jackson, Sting and Aerosmith appear.

June 16, 1969

Experimental avant-garde/free-jazz artist Don Van Vliet, aka Captain Beefheart, releases Trout Mask Replica. While the album only manages to chart #21 in the UK and doesn't chart at all in the US, it later becomes hailed as Captain Beefheart's magnum opus masterpiece and receives raves from critics. The Simpsons cartoonist Matt Groening and film director David Lynch have called it their favorite album, along with other eclectic artists' raves.

December 23, 1943

Harry Shearer (aka Derek Smalls of Spinal Tap) is born in Los Angeles, California. Shearer is also known for voicing a number of characters on The Simpsons, including Principal Skinner and Ned Flanders.
