February 10, 2008 Famous spaghetti western composer Ennio Morricone and Bruce Springsteen win the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental. Springsteen covered Morricone's classic "Once Upon a Time in the West."

February 10, 2008 Daft Punk make their first televised live appearance at the 50th Grammy Awards, joining Kanye West in a performance of "Stronger" at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

February 10, 2008 Ne-Yo's sophomore album, Because Of You, wins the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album. It's the singer-songwriter's first Grammy win.

February 10, 2008 Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around... Comes Around" wins the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. He also takes Best Dance Recording for "LoveStoned/I Think She Knows."

February 11, 2007 Two songs from Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSounds album earn Grammy Awards: "My Love" (with T.I.) wins Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and "SexyBack" is named Best Dance Recording.

April 24, 2006 Billy Joel becomes the first non-athlete to earn a banner at Madison Square Garden when he sells out the venue for the 12th time on his tour. His #12 hangs alongside retired greats who played in the Garden like Willis Reed, Walt Frazier and Mark Messier.More

March 27, 2006 Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion is designated as a National Historic Landmark.

February 8, 2006 David Bowie is awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

December 1, 2005 Rocky Horror Picture Show is entered into the National Film Registry.

November 1, 2005 Black Sabbath is inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame by Brian May of Queen. The band plays "Paranoid" at the ceremony and Ozzy moons the crowd, feeling that they aren't rocking hard enough.

February 13, 2005 Robin Thicke wins his first Grammy, thanks to his work on Usher's 2004 album, Confessions, which takes Best Contemporary R&B Album. Robin co-produced the track "Can U Handle It?" Wilco wins for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Recording Package for their fifth album, A Ghost Is Born.

October 17, 2004 At the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Music Awards, Jet dominates the competition, winning awards for six of their seven nominations, including Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Best Group and Breakthrough Artist. During the ceremony Nic Chester performs as a member of the Australian super-group The Wrights.

August 29, 2004 Jet take home the award for Best Rock Video for "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" at the MTV Video Music Awards and perform the song live during the strangely un-hosted ceremony at American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida.

February 28, 2004 Gigli sweeps the 24th Golden Raspberry Awards with nine nominations and six wins, including Worst Actress for star Jennifer Lopez and Worst Actor for Ben Affleck (whose award also includes his roles in Daredevil and Paycheck). Despite having a highly publicized off-screen romance, the pair also lands Worst Screen Couple.

February 8, 2004 Pink wins her first solo Grammy Award when her Try This single "Trouble" is named Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. She previously earned a trophy for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals in 2002 alongside Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim and Mýa for their rendition of "Lady Marmalade."

November 5, 2003 Jimmy Buffett wins his first Country Music Association Award when "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere," a duet with Alan Jackson, is named Vocal Event of the Year.

February 23, 2003 Nickel Creek wins the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album for the Alison Krauss-produced This Side.

October 17, 2002 The International Bluegrass Music Awards honors Down from the Mountain as Album of the Year. The collection is comprised of artists featured on the Grammy Award-winning soundtrack to the Coen Brothers movie O Brother Where Art Thou?, including Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch, Emmylou Harris, John Hartford, and Ralph Stanley (of The Stanley Brothers). Dan Tyminski, who sang lead on the Soggy Bottom Boys' "Man Of Constant Sorrow" for the movie, also wins Male Vocalist of the Year.

February 25, 2002 New York City rock band The Strokes are named Band of the Year and Best New Act at the NME Awards (founded by the titular British music magazine). Their debut, Is This It, is also awarded Best Album.

January 8, 2002 Fabian is awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7065 Hollywood Blvd.

September 11, 2001 Amid the chaos of terrorist attacks, PJ Harvey wins the Mercury Prize (an annual award given to the best album from the UK and Ireland) for Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea. She recalls: "It was very strange, particularly since we were in Washington. I woke up to people hammering on the door, saying the Pentagon was on fire – which we could see from our hotel. Sadly I didn't I feel at all present in terms of winning the Mercury Prize. And it was an honor for me to receive it."

March 24, 2001 After being dubbed Worst Actress of the Century a year earlier, Madonna lands her fifth Razzie for Worst Actress, for her role as Abbie Reynolds in The Next Best Thing, at the 21st Golden Raspberry Awards.

February 21, 2001 Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira wins her first (US) Grammy Award when her live MTV Unplugged release wins Best Latin Pop Album. The performance, filmed at the Grand Ballroom in New York City, featured acoustic-rock renditions of her Spanish-language tunes, including "Octavo Dia," "Ojos Asi," and "No Creo."

May 11, 2000 Napster, which lets users download songs posted by other users for free, wins the Webby award for best music site, beating out Launch.com, Wired Planet, sputnik7 and FarmClub.

March 25, 2000 The Razzies aren't done with Madonna yet. After saddling her with three prizes for Worst Actress (Shanghai Surprise, Who's That Girl, Body of Evidence) and one for Worst Supporting Actress (Four Rooms) throughout her film career, the Golden Raspberry Awards names her Worst Actress of the Century. Will Smith is also a star of the evening at the 20th annual ceremony, where he wins Worst Original Song for "Wild Wild West." The movie of the same name (which he also starred in) is named Worst Picture.

February 23, 2000 Tom Waits's heavily roots-influenced Mule Variations wins a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.

February 24, 1999 Lenny Kravitz wins his first Grammy when "Fly Away" is named Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. It's his first of four-consecutive wins in the category, followed by "American Woman," "Again" and "Dig In."

February 25, 1998 Future spouses Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood win the Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for "In Another's Eyes." Yearwood also wins Best Female Country Vocal Performance for "How Do I Live" (besting LeAnn Rimes' version).
