February 6, 2007 Barenaked Ladies release their eighth studio album, Barenaked Ladies Are Men, the last BNL album to feature founding member Steven Page.

October 11, 2006 Singer Justin Hawkins announces that he has left British band The Darkness to continue his drug rehabilitation.

June 23, 2006 Kevin Richardson of Backstreet Boys leaves the group to pursue other interests.

May 13, 2006 Ryan Vandeberghe announces that the Suicide Machines have broken up after 15 years.

May 11, 2006 Guitarist Dave Baksh announces he is leaving Sum 41 to pursue a career with his new band, Brown Brigade.

September 20, 2005 JD Fortune wins the CBS reality competition Rock Star: INXS to become the group's new lead singer. INXS used various guest vocalists after the 1997 death of Michael Hutchence; Fortune stays with the group until 2011.

August 15, 2005 Sly Stone comes out of a long seclusion to visit the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles, where his little sister Vet headlines with the latest version of the Family Stone.

April 21, 2003 British pop group S Club 7 announces it is splitting up after five years.

November 22, 2002 Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors announce plans to re-form with The Cult lead singer, Ian Astbury, and The Police drummer, Stewart Copeland. They initially tour as "The Doors of the 21st Century," but a lawsuit by original drummer, John Densmore (who declined to tour citing hearing loss), forces them to stop using the "Doors" moniker. They change their name to "Riders on the Storm" as a result of the litigation.

June 2, 2002 S Club 7 member Hannah Spearitt announces she is quitting the group two months after her boyfriend and band member Paul Cattermole had left the group.

January 22, 2002 Bad Religion release their 12th full-length studio album, The Process of Belief. It is their first recording with Brett Gurewitz on guitar since 1994's Stranger Than Fiction and their debut with current drummer Brooks Wackerman. It's also their first studio album released on Epitaph Records since 1993's Recipe for Hate.

October 30, 2001 Tim Booth announces that James' forthcoming UK tour is to be his last with the band. With 11 albums and 20 Top-40 UK singles under its belt with Booth at the helm, the Manchester-based group's remaining members plan to continue making music together following the singer's departure.

October 12, 2001 Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland quits the band. A post on the group's website states, "Limp Bizkit and Wes Borland have amicably decided to part ways. Both Limp Bizkit and Borland will continue to pursue their respective musical careers." He returns in 2009.

November 1, 2000 Ben Folds Five announce their breakup. Folds continues as a solo artist.

October 7, 2000 Following the last stop on their 2000 tour, a show in Mountain View, California, Phish go on hiatus, which lasts 815 days. They finally return on New Year's Eve 2002 with a show at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

May 23, 2000 Billy Corgan announces that The Smashing Pumpkins will break up at the end of the year, saying they are tired of "fighting the good fight against the Britneys of the world."

May 19, 2000 The Allman Brothers Band announce that founding guitarist Dickey Betts will not be a part of their summer tour. Reason given: "sadly, there are creative differences."

May 4, 2000 Letters to Cleo play their last concert in Boston; they disband the following month.

April 25, 2000 Eric Clapton is reunited with his former Derek & the Dominos keyboard player Bobby Whitlock for their first performance together in 29 years. The setting is the London-based BBC TV series Later With Jools Holland.

October 5, 1999 After breaking up in 1983, The Who reform when Roger Daltrey announces that they will play a concert in Las Vegas.

April 29, 1999 Following his reunion with Pamela Anderson Lee, Tommy Lee quits Mötley Crüe to devote time to his new band, Methods of Mayhem, and his family.

April 20, 1999 Rapper Mase, 21, announces that he is retiring from music in order to "follow God." He returns with his third album, Welcome Back, in 2004.

September 22, 1998 White Zombie calls it a night. Bassist Sean Yseult confirms that the 13-year-old hard rock group has decided to break up.

June 9, 1998 At a show in San Rafael, California, Steve Augeri debuts as lead singer of Journey, who have parted ways with Steve Perry because he's unable to tour. He's later replaced by Arnel Pineda as the band soldiers on into the 2020s. Perry never returns to the band, which is anchored by their founding member, guitarist Neal Schon.

April 22, 1998 Faith No More announce that they are no more.

May 20, 1997 Foo Fighters release their second album, The Colour And The Shape, with the hits "Everlong" and "My Hero." It's their first album with members other than Dave Grohl (Pat Smear on guitar and Nate Mendel on bass).

October 4, 1996 Van Halen, who months earlier recorded two new songs with original lead singer David Lee Roth, shock fans by announcing their new lead singer will not be Roth but Gary Cherone from the band Extreme. The Cherone era results in one tour, one album, and little support from fans. The band finally reunites with Roth in 2007.

September 4, 1996 At the MTV Video Music Awards, Van Halen, who recently parted ways with lead singer Sammy Hagar, appear on stage with their founding frontman David Lee Roth for the first time in 11 years to present an award. The reunion is short lived - a month later they announce Gary Cherone (formerly of Extreme) as their new lead singer. Roth releases a statement saying, "I was an unwitting participant in this deception." Van Halen release one album with Cherone before reuniting with Roth in 2007.

March 28, 1996 Phil Collins leaves Genesis on good terms, stating he will concentrate on "Movies, some Jazz projects, and of course my solo career."

June 1, 1995 Alan Wilder leaves Depeche Mode.
