1971Ricky Martin is born Enrique Martin Morales in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Before he led a Latin Pop explosion in the US with his #1 hit single "Livin' La Vida Loca" in 1999, the former Menudo star was known to soap fans as Miguel Morez, a bartender-turned-singer on General Hospital. Martin went mainstream when he teamed with Desmond Child, a prolific songwriter and producer who used digital technology to create a modern sound that changed the course of Latin music. "We got his voice right in everybody's face," Child told Songfacts. "It really worked, and from that moment on nothing has ever sounded like it used to sound."
