Abba Reunite! But Just To Open A Restaurant
2016Mamma Mia, here we go again! The Swedish pop quartet ABBA reunite for the first time in eight years to celebrate Mamma Mia! The Party, a restaurant inspired by the long-running musical.
Rumor has it, Abba - Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, and Agnetha Faltskog - once turned down a cool billion to reunite onstage decades after their 1982 split. The last time the former bandmates (and former spouses) were even spotted together was at the 2008 film premiere of Mamma Mia!, an adaptation of the smash musical based on the group's hit singles like "Mamma Mia," " Dancing Queen," and "Fernando." But Ulvaeus came up with an idea that would still let their songs do the entertaining for them. The Abba-themed restaurant in Stockholm, Sweden, is modeled after the Mamma Mia's Greek taverna, but it's more than just an eatery. It's also an interactive experience "filled with singing and dancing, daredevil stunts, Greek Gods, flirty waiters, and perhaps a Zorba and an Ouzo or two." While feasting on a buffet of Mediterranean food, diners are entertained by a show based on Abba songs and are encouraged to sing along. The foursome arrive separately for the restaurant's opening and exchange warm greetings but refuse to be photographed together. When asked by reporters if they will reconsider an actual reunion, Ulvaeus dismisses the idea. He says: "We are here to party."
