Edward Sharpe Singer Leaves "Home"

2014

Jade Castrinos, the female vocalist in Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, updates her Instagram bio to read: "For seven years i sang and wrote music with edward sharpe. they voted me off of tour a week before they left, via email. lol."

Castrinos has been absent from the band since May 11, when she was a no-show for their set at the Shaky Knees Music Festival in Atlanta. Her post is the opening salvo in a battle with her former bandmates over circumstances of her departure. The band responds in a long Facebook post that reads in part, "Anyone on here who thinks the story could be as terribly and flatly painted as Jade conveniently did has no idea what this band has always been about," ending by telling her, "It is beneath you and it is grotesquely damaging." Castrinos was dating lead singer Alex Ebert when the band formed, and the pair co-wrote their most popular song, "Home," a snapshot of a time when they were blissfully in love. The pair managed to perform the song in a Buckingham/Nicks "Landslide" kind of way after they split, but the song had clearly taken on a different vibe. With Castrinos gone, Ebert uses the crowd to fill in her vocals at subsequent performances. In 2015, the band brings up the departure again in their Facebook feed, posting: "You should know Jade quit. We didn't kick her out. We asked her to take off one tour. So she quit and told you she was booted."

Wayne Evans Tayloriii from Cordele, Ga 31015Well it sucks that she quit. I'll never understand(being a regular Joe Schmo) how easy it seems for some to not realize how grateful they should be to be apart of something amazing. With her leaving it didn't just hurt the band, it hurt fans too. Broke my heart. Jade had caught lightening in a bottle, along with the rest of your group...Why oh why catch the sky , abandon it & watch it die.....
