1994 Bad Bunny is born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio in Almirante Sur, Puerto Rico. He becomes a global superstar with a stronghold in America, where in 2020 his album El Último Tour Del Mundo becomes the first entirely Spanish-language album to hit #1.

1991 Mookie Blaylock (the band) go on the Seattle radio station KISW and announce they are changing their name to Pearl Jam, inspired by the jamming they saw at a Neil Young concert a few weeks earlier.

1984 Ian Gillan leaves Black Sabbath after a year with the band. He later says, "I was the worst singer Black Sabbath ever had."

1981 Jimmy Page takes the stage for the first time since the breakup of Led Zeppelin when he joins Jeff Beck for some encores at a London show.

1975 Jerry Horton (lead guitarist for Papa Roach) is born in Charleston, South Carolina.

1975 The Rocky Horror Show, which started in London in 1973, opens on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre with Meat Loaf playing both Eddie and Dr. Scott. It's later made into a movie with Meat Loaf reprising his role as the motorcycle-riding Eddie.

1972 Timothy "Timbaland" Mosley is born in Norfolk, Virginia. In the '90s, he makes a name for himself producing tracks for Aaliyah and Ginuwine; the next decade finds him crafting hits for Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, and many others.

1967 Aretha Franklin issues her first album on Atlantic Records, I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You. Featuring the hit title track and her soon-to-be-signature "Respect," it sets her on a path to stardom.

Marvin Gaye's Estate Wins "Blurred Lines" Case

A jury awards Marvin Gaye's estate (his children Marvin III, Frankie and Nona) $7.3 million, finding that the Robin Thicke song "Blurred Lines" is too similar to Gaye's 1977 hit "Got To Give It Up."
