Parsons had been recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, but relapsed during his trip to Joshua Tree National Park. "He was clean and took a strong shot," his friend Keith Richards says. "It's the one mistake you don't want to make."

Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and DJ AM are seriously injured when the plane they are riding in hurtles off the end of a runway in South Carolina and hits a highway embankment.
A blown tire leads to the crash, which engulfs the aircraft in flames. Barker and AM are the only survivors; four others are killed. Barker recounts running away from the wreckage as fast as he could. "The night is dark, but I can see my way, because of the light from my own burning flesh," he writes in his memoir. Barker suffers a back injury and severe burns, but recovers and gets back to performing, although he is left terrified of flying. DJ AM dies of an accidental drug overdose less than a year later.
