Lynyrd Skynyrd return to recording with Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991. It's their sixth album, following Street Surviors, but is their first since the plane wreak take took three band-members lives in 1977. The new lineup initially uses the name "Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991," but eventually has to drop this name after the media and fans essentially ignore it and continue to call them Lynyrd Skynyrd.

July 17, 1991

Fourteen years after the deadly crash of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Baton Rouge-bound aircraft, the surviving members of the band, reunited under the name "Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991," return to the Louisiana city to kick off a new tour. February 16, 1993

Lynyrd Skynyrd release The Last Rebel, the band's seventh album, on which Kurt Custer appears for his first time and guitarist Randall Hall for his last.

August 9, 1994

Lynyrd Skynyrd release Endangered Species, their eight album.

April 29, 1997

Lynyrd Skynyrd release the album Twenty, which is titled after the fact that it's being released 20 years after the plane crash that claimed the lives of three band members. It's their ninth studio album.

June 2, 1998

Lynyrd Skynyrd release their fourth live album, Lyve from Steel Town.

June 29, 2000

The casket holding Lynyrd Skynyrd lead singer Ronnie Van Zandt is stolen from its mausoleum in Jacksonville, Florida, but left after vandals are unable to open it. The ashes of Steve Gaines, the band's guitarist who died in the same plane crash that killed Van Zandt, are spilled from his urn, which is also stolen.

Lynyrd Skynyrd release Christmas Time Again, their first Christmas album.

July 27, 2001

Leon Wilkeson (bass guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd) dies in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, from chronic liver and lung disease at age 49.

May 20, 2003

Lynyrd Skynyrd release Vicious Cycle, their twelfth studio album. It's the last to feature work by bassist Leon Wilkeson, who passed away during recording. Kid Rock appears on the album in a remake of "Gimme Back My Bullets."

June 22, 2004

Lynyrd Skynyrd release Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve: The Vicious Cycle Tour, their fifth live album. Featuring music from a July 11, 2003 performance at Antioch, Tennessee's Amsouth Amphitheater, it celebrates the band's thirty year anniversary.

March 13, 2006

Black Sabbath, Blondie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Miles Davis and The Sex Pistols are inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The Sex Pistols refuse to attend the ceremony and turn down the induction.More

September 8, 2007

Lynyrd Skynyrd are inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

Lynyrd Skynyrd release Live at the Cardiff Capitol Theatre. It features music recorded at Cardiff, Wales' Capitol Theatre on November 4, 1975. It's released alongside the album Authorized Bootleg: Live In Winterland, San Francisco, CA, 3/07/76.

Lynyrd Skynyrd release Gods & Guns, their 13th album.

June 22, 2010

Lynyrd Skynyrd release Live from Freedom Hall, their eight live album. It features music performed June 15, 2007 at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky.

September 20, 2010

Leonard Skinner, the namesake of the band Lynyrd Skynyrd, dies of Alzheimer's disease at age 77. As a gym teacher at Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Florida, he sent Ronnie Van Zant to the principal's office because his hair was too long.More

Lynyrd Skynyrd release Last of a Dyin' Breed, their 14th studio album. Guitarist John Lowery, better known by stage name "John 5," contributes to a couple of the tracks.
