Janis Joplin's psychedelic-painted Porsche sells for $1.76 million at auction.
It's the highest price ever paid for a Porsche. Joplin bought it used for $3,500 in 1968 and had the vehicle, a 1965 356C Cabriolet, custom painted in psychedelic chic. It was often spotted in San Francisco, where Joplin drove it on a regular basis. After Joplin died in 1970, her family had it restored (with a new paint job mimicking the original), and in 1995 loaned it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where it stayed for 20 years until the auction.
