"How Do You Talk To An Angel?" Singer Joins 90210 Cast
1994Jamie Walters, who sang the #1 hit theme song "How Do You Talk To An Angel?" for the short-lived Aaron Spelling series The Heights, joins Beverly Hills 90210 as Ray Pruit, an aspiring musician. Unfortunately for Walters, his character takes a dark turn and starts abusing fan fave Donna Martin, causing his real-life music career to suffer.
Fans feel outraged for Tori Spelling's character when Ray pushes her down a flight of stairs and cheats on her with resident bad girl Valerie Malone - and vent their frustration at Jamie Walters' concerts. The singer told MTV: "I was like you either have to change the character or you have to let me off the show, because I'm going out and I'm trying to sell tickets on our tour, and there's teenage girls out there who think, like they really think I'm an abusive guy you know, and they'd hold up signs saying like 'leave Donna alone' and that's like so not what I wanted." Walters does leave the show, but can't shake Ray's reputation, so the writers orchestrate a brief return that redeems the character. We learn Ray was abused as a child and is in therapy for his anger issues. But Walters - whose last hit was the Top 20 single "Hold On" from Ray's gentler days - struggles to land another hit and eventually leaves the music business.
