1967 Otis Redding dies at age 26 when his personal Beechcraft plane crashes into Lake Monona near Madison, Wisconsin. Members of his road band The Bar-Kays also die in the crash; the only survivor is the band's trumpet player Ben Cauley. One month later, "Dock of the Bay" is released, becoming the first #1 song issued after the artist's death.
1953 The first issue of Playboy magazine is published (Marilyn Monroe is on the cover). Over the next two decades, "playboy" shows up in several hit songs:

Brady Bunch Gets Davy Jones
1971Davy Jones of the Monkees guest stars on The Brady Bunch episode "Getting Davy Jones," where Marcia tries to get the dreamy singer to perform at her prom.
Marcia Brady is president of the local Davy Jones fan club and foolishly promises her school that she can get the star to perform at the junior prom - but she has to find him first. Luckily, things always have a way of working out for the Bradys. The eldest daughter of the bunch tracks the singer to a recording studio where she watches Jones perform the post-Monkees tune "Girl," one of his most memorable solo singles despite its poor commercial performance. Marcia is ousted from the studio, but not before Jones overhears her predicament. He shows up at the Brady house with a gift-wrapped album and not only agrees to play the prom, but of course asks Marcia to be his date. In the immortal words of Jan Brady: "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" Jones revisits the Bradys for the 1995 spoof The Brady Bunch Movie, where he wins over surly promgoers by singing a grungy rendition of "Girl." When Jones dies in 2012, "Getting Davy Jones" remains the most rerun episode of a TV show ever.
